When do all the classic boats come to Crosslake? One Saturday every June. The Whitefish Chain Classic Boat Show celebrated its 39th year on June 20, 2026, with polished wooden boats lined up along the docks of Moonlite Bay on Cross Lake from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A week later, the National Loon Center hosts its Loons & Lakes Festival on June 26 and 27, 2026. Together they make late June the best stretch of the year to experience what Crosslake is really about: water, heritage, and a town that gathers around both.

What the Boat Show Looks Like

  • A floating museum: antique and classic boats, some of them known to be nearly a century old, gather along the docks with their owners on hand to talk about restoration and history.
  • The setting is part of the show: the boats sit on Cross Lake right beside Moonlite Bay, so you watch the working dock life of the Whitefish Chain while you admire the woodwork.
  • It is free to wander: the show is held out in the open at the lakeside, which makes it an easy family morning with a camera in hand.
  • The Loons & Lakes Festival

A week later, the third annual Loons & Lakes Festival runs June 26 and 27, 2026 at the National Loon Center, with lake days, paddling excursions, and loon-themed family events. The center, which we cover in our look at Crosslake's Historic Log Village and the National Loon Center, has become the town's civic anchor, and the festival turns it into a weekend destination.

    Why It Matters for Buyers

Crosslake's whole appeal is the water. The Whitefish Chain is a connected system of lakes, and the town is its working hub: marinas, dockside fuel, boat launches, and a rhythm that follows the water. A weekend like the boat show shows the character behind that infrastructure. Buyers who spend an afternoon on the docks watching classic boats and families and neighbors catch up are seeing the community they would actually join, not just the map. Our guide to boating the Whitefish Chain from Crosslake explains how the town supports that life day to day.

    The Bottom Line

If you want proof that Crosslake is more than summer rentals, spend late June on the docks: master-built boats one weekend, loons and paddles the next. That is the community in its natural state. Want to explore it with someone who knows the water? Schedule a conversation and we will plan a day on the chain with you. Cheers!
